There is a difference

One of the things that I found as a home owner I must decide on is which home improvement store to use. It's like deciding between McDonald's or Burger King; Exxon or Shell; Wal-Mart or Target; Chick-Fil-A or, well, bad example. One would think that this would be an easy task being that I live right behind a Home Depot, but this isn't so much the case.
The Home Depot that I live behind is always out of stock on what I need, the stuff is never in the right place, and there isn't nearly enough associates to help you when you need it. So this led me to Lowe's (ahhhhhh).

Lowe's is wonderful. It is a clean, well stocked, customer service focused store. However, as with anything in life, there is a problem with them as well. They don't have a good selection of lighting products and their prices tend to run a little higher than the Depot. But they are first class in everything else.

So, the red headed endorsement of the day goes to Lowe's.

Nate and I fully agree with this assessment. I like the paint better at the depot, but other than that we stick to Lowes. We had one too many bad experiences at the depot, ie when an associate told us we were cheap and stupid (her words) if we didn't put in granite countertops in our bathroom. Well, color me cheap I guess..

And when you're buying plywood to cover your windows in case of a hurricane, the price is only a few cents different, but the same product at Lowe's is in much better condition than the stuff at the Depot. Lowe's is a lot further from us, so for the small stuff I'll go to the Depot, but for any large purchase, Lowe's is definitely worth the longer drive.

I think you hit it on the head Erin. Lowes marketing scheme is directed towards women with a more aesthetically pleasing store with blues and grays. Home Depot markets towards men with the dusty floors and bold hunter orange. I think each store is a little different because Home Depot by my parent's house is much better than what many of ya'll have alluded too.
