Beautiful of Heaven

What do you think about when you think about heaven? It's a question that has been asked many times, and will continue to be asked forever.

I would say most answers consists of: streets of gold, no more pain, crowns, rewards, dancing, laughing, glory, perfection, and the list could go on and on. I wouldn't say that those things are wrong, however, I have yet to talk to someone whose first reaction is the word "beautiful". But I'm not talking in reference to what heaven will look like, but rather the One who created it all. The Father, the Creator, the Almighty One....

The song, "Beautiful of Heaven", talks not of heaven as a place, but the beauty the He is in that place (heaven). I love it! It's a song that reminds me of God's infinite attributes.

One of the most powerful lyrics of the song is "Take my life, my offering, 'til I am lost in the King of kings" Can you imagine being lost in the Beauty that is GOD.... It makes me just wanna take a deep breath.

The song was written and recorded by Charlie Hall, but was also recorded by some good friends of mine, Brett and Emily Mills of Bartimaeus Ministries. If any of you went to Baylor, you might remember Brett and Emily from Touchstone. Combine the great God honoring lyrics that God gave Charlie, with the music talents and giftings that emerge from the God-centered life that Brett and Emily live, and you have a song that not only challenges someone to sing these words in truth to the King, but a declaration the Father would love to hear His children sing. My prayer is that He would increase and I would decrease so much that I would truly be lost in the King of kings...

O Beautiful of Heaven, O Sovereign God transcendent
There is no one more majestic, mysterious
There is no one more magnificent

There is no other God but You
There is no other more beautiful

So set my mind upon You wholly
Peel my fingers from the earthly, yeah
Inject boldness in my confession
As I proclaim this awesome truth, hey

Holy God, fire of love, come O torch, burn me up
Take my life, my offering, 'til I am lost in the King of kings

I have loved this song (the Brett & Emily version) ever since you gave me that mix CD of yours. I purposefully don't listen to it very frequently so it doesn't become commonplace or ordinary. Sometimes it makes me cry, sometimes it gives me chills, but it always makes me turn my face toward HIM, the Beautiful of Heaven.

Wow. That reminds me how AWESOME God is.

Heaven: humanly indescribable? How do you describe His perfection and glory and to be fully in His presence?

The fact that the streets will be paved of gold, etc., just shows how worthless those things really are (we will treat it as dirt to walk on).

Randy Alcorn has written some books on Heaven. I have one of his latest, aptly titled 'Heaven', but haven't found time to read it yet. Randy mentions that of all the doctrinal issues that receive attention (in our sys. theo. books, sermons, what most Christians seem to wonder about, etc.), the one place we all hope for seems to get the least press.

Thanks for the tip on the music, may check it out.

Grace and peace,
