First, praise God! Sounds like John's surgery went "beautiful" according to his wife's words on his website www.desiringgod.org
Second, the link below this paragraph is a note that John wrote the day before his surgery. I don't really care what people think of "his" theology, the man loves Jesus and out of the overflow of his heart for Christ, he wrote down the following words on this link. Take time to read this letter, take time to pass it along, and take time to let the words sink into your heart as you never know when you will be in a position to boast of the life and comforts of Christ to someone in a time of trouble....

I would love to have comments on this. I only ask that if anyone takes issue with any comments, you take issue with just that, their comments. It's really easy to get defensive with a subject like this and start attacking people rather than their thoughts. My reason for the post is not to boast in John, and it's not so we can ask Jesus to give us a heart for GOD like John has, but rather to ask the Father to give us a heart for GOD like Jesus has!
May God continue to be glorified with everything, cancer included.......

Nobody has ever confused me with a member of the Piper Pep Squad, but I am moved upon reading this piece. We should apply these 10 things to any situation of hardship that enters our life. Thanks for pointing this one out D.
Words like those in Piper's 10 points about "not wasting your cancer" can only come from a heart that holds a VERY HIGH opinion of God, and a VERY LOW opinion of man (essentially an acute understanding of the phrase "it's not all about us" with a view on eternity).
It's something that I *think* I understand and share, but am probably nowhere as close to 'getting get' as I think I am...even in thought. Piper (and hundreds of others who have walked with Jesus longer and with more zeal than me) actually LIVE these things out withi their lives.
Definitely agree with you Dustin...we shouldn't get distracted from the goal of loving God the way Jesus does (for the infinitely lesser pursuit of loving God like John Piper (or anyone else) does)...BUT...what I love about Piper's note is that it shows us that it is possible to really live out the kind of love for God we can/should have in the REAL WORLD that is full of nasty stuff like cancer.
I agree, Dovie. It does put it in a modern day perspective.
