I was reading a blog that belongs to a professor at the Southwestern Seminary Extension campus in Houston. As Jim puts it, this article is a "slap in the face" to some. I also agree that I can't believe this was in the LA Times. My hope is that we would pray for all the churches (regardless of the particular denomination) that are falling into this type of liberalism.

Definitely an accurate commentary on our current age, sadly. The most interesting statement to me was where the sociologist and historian both "contend that the more demands, ethical and doctrinal, that a faith places upon its adherents, the deeper the adherents' commitment to that faith." Even this could go wrong if taken to the other extreme, but I think it is an significant statement, given the "demands" placed on anyone pursuing holiness.
